A further advantage is that no corkscrew is required, and the bottle can be resealed airtight in the same way as soft drinks; the perforation in the metal cap also reliably informs the customer that the bottle has been opened. With this type of closure, the (not always elegant) popping sound of uncorking is absent, but this is offset by the fact that we often get annoyed by poor-quality corks or faulty corkscrews, and as a result of this operation, we have to deal with fishing out and filtering out cork debris. To the consumer’s delight, a screw-cap bottle can be opened anywhere without any tools, with a simple twisting motion, and can be easily resealed to encourage moderate wine consumption.
The screw cap is spreading unstoppably worldwide, so its widespread adoption is also expected in Hungary, as the Hungarian wine harvest consists largely of white wine; of these, consumers prefer wines that are reductive in character, rich in aroma and flavour, and refreshingly fresh, resulting from rapid processing, for which this closure would be excellently suited for quality control. A further advantage of screw-cap bottling is that the wines require less sulphurisation; they remain crisp, fresh and sparkling due to the carbon dioxide, and, based on the results of shelf-life control tests to date, this new method offers a long-term solution for modern wineries.
